Dutch Product Designer and graduate from the Royal College of Art, Karlijn Sibbel aims to explore new ways of product fabrication. For her project “SEAt”, she used the nature of sea salt crystallisation to grow a stool. A knitted cotton wireframe in the shape of the stool serves as a holding primer, which then will be dipped in a salt solution. By lifting the wireframe incrementally, salt crystals start to form along the strings and knots.

Her aim is to apply this technique in natural environments and use local resources to create objects.
