“The outlook for bioplastics is promising as the global market is predicted to grow by 36 percent over the next 5 years”, François de Bie commended the new data at the annual European Bioplastics Conference in December. Flexible and rigid packaging still is the largest segment for bioplastics with 47 percent (0.99 million tonnes) of the total bioplastics market in 2020. Despite the continuous diversification of bioplastic applications, also in 2025 packaging will account for the largest share with 48 percent.
