According to an article by the Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI) foodservice packaging owes its creation to Dr. Samuel B. Crumbine, a Kansas public health physician. In the early 20st century he wanted to ban the use of common cups and eating utensils in order to prevent diseases from spreading so easily from one person to another.
